What is Melasma?

Melasma is a common pigmentation condition that causes brown or gray marks on the skin. These blotches generally range in size, pattern, and severity. They can be present almost anywhere on the body but frequently show up on the face or neck. Our providers, Dr. Vanessa M. Hart, Alisa Wright, RN, and Heather Darling, FNP-IFMCP, are pleased to offer innovative melasma treatment to Millcreek, UT men and women. At Raw Rejuvenation and Wellness, we utilize the Harmony XL PRO laser by Alma to provide safe, effective skin therapy. Our goal is to help you achieve a more natural-looking complexion so you can show off your skin with confidence.

What causes melasma?
Melasma is believed to be caused by hormone fluctuations, such as those that occur during pregnancy, hormone therapy, or while on certain medications, like birth control. Other factors that can trigger melasma include sun exposure, stress, and cosmetic products.

How does laser treatment for melasma work?
During melasma treatment, our team will focus the Harmony XL PRO laser on discolored areas of skin to target unwanted pigment (melanin). The light energy will help break down melanin, allowing it to then be absorbed by the body. While pigmented spots may take on a darker appearance at first, they should become less noticeable over time.

Does melasma come back after laser treatment?
Although laser procedures can help lessen the appearance of melasma, it does not prevent new spots from developing. Touch-up procedures might be suggested to help prolong your results.

What is the cost of laser melasma treatment?
At Raw Rejuvenation and Wellness, the price of laser melasma treatment is determined by your unique skin concerns. Our providers will develop a treatment strategy to help achieve your desired results and discuss the different payments we accept at our Millcreek, UT practice.
